Protect from moisture: Wood is not designed for bathing or prolonged soaking. If a toy gets wet from the baby's saliva, be sure to wipe it dry with a clean cloth. This will prevent the wood fibers from swelling and mold from forming.
Avoid direct sunlight: Do not leave toys in the sun or near heaters. Sudden temperature changes and over-drying can cause micro-cracks and splinters that could hurt a child's delicate skin.
